Patrol

The City of Franklin Police Department’s Patrol Division are the first responders to 99% of the calls for service received by this agency. Generally, patrol officers are the first on scene. Officers respond to and answer a variety of calls for service.

There are four squads operating within the Patrol Division. Patrol squads consist of one sergeant, one corporal and three patrol officers. The Franklin Police Department operates in a paramilitary fashion.

Patrol officers have the opportunity to be an active participant in investigations of offenses that she or he is conducting.

Officers work their own cases from processing the crime scene, securing warrants against a suspect, to testifying in court; Franklin Patrol Officers work the case from start to finish.

Bicycle Patrol

Another function of the Patrol Division is the Bicycle patrol. The bicycle is a great tool that assists the Patrol Division in not only Community Policing but as a crime deterrent. The stealth like qualities of the bicycle allows officers to quickly and quietly maneuver over varying urban terrain. Bicycles also offer the police department a tool to enhance police community relations. Besides patrol operations, bicycle officers assist at special events and on security details.
